South Valley, Tipon & Pikillacta (Half Day)

$ 75.00

The Tipon, Pikillacta and the Andahuaylillas Temple are three archaeological sites located in the Cusco region of Peru. Tipon is an ancient Inca aqueduct system and terrace complex that was built to irrigate crops and water livestock. Pikillacta is an ancient Wari site, which was a pre-Inca civilization that flourished in Peru between 500 and 1000 AD. The Andahuaylillas Temple is a beautiful colonial church that was built in 1580 and is also known as the ‘Sistine Chapel of America’ due to its exquisite interior decoration.

Tipon is an engineering marvel and was constructed with an intricate network of canals, terraces and water channels that were used to bring water from the nearby mountains to the terraces. The terraces were used for growing crops, while the canals were used to irrigate them. The terrace complex was also used for religious and ceremonial purposes, and still remains an important part of Inca history and culture.
